It's No Secret: The date for Pr. Bradley Schmeling's trial is January 19-21, 2007. If you thought that was still a secret, take a look at the St. John's Web site.

The trial date coincides with the 17th anniversary of the January 20, 1990 ordinations extra ordinem of Pr. Ruth Frost, Pr. Phyllis Zilhart, and Pr. Jeff Johnson, which resulted in a trial and the expulsion of First United and St. Francis in San Francisco.

Word Alone Report: The Board of Directors for Word Alone met recently at Tea, South Dakota. Here's an excerpt from the followup report of president Jaynan Clark Egland: Within the Network a general attitude of tiredness seems to be encroaching because we haven't "fixed it yet." To meet the challenge of energizing volunteers across the map to engage in a work of witness and proclamation -- and which labor often is criticized and its results are not recognized easily --i s a continuing challenge to the volunteers and staff in leadership roles. Lutheran Christians still care deeply about the state of the "church" but they seem to think the institution should have woken up long before now.

More Calling Congregations: On November 5, three San Francisco Lutheran churches, Christ Church - Lutheran, St. Francis, and Sts. Mary and Martha. voted to join Ebenezer Lutheran in calling ECP ordination candidate Megan Rohrer. the ordination is set for 3:00PM on November 18 at Ebenezer.

Why Can't We Do This?: From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette: Most people send formal invitations for weddings, but the Rev. Janet Edwards has gone a step further with invitations to her church trial for conducting the wedding of two lesbians.

"I feel such delight in having an opportunity to engage in the absolutely essential discussion that has to go on in the Presbyterian Church over the place of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people among us that I really do want the church to come and join in it and witness it. ~Ann Rodgers

The trial will be November 11, 2006 in Pittsburgh. Read More.

Gag Order, No Joke: It has been brought to our attention that one or more items published by LutheranConfessions.com may violate a gag order issued by the Politburo of the Queer Lutheran Liberation Front (QLLF). Unfortunately the gag order forbids discussion of the gag order itself, so we are not at liberty to divulge which items are in violation.

Rumor: Not that we believe this sort of thing, but we hear that at least one sitting ELCA Bishop may cross synod lines to participate in Megan Roher's ordination on November 18.
