Executive Discernment
Abstract: The ELCA is looking for a Chief Discernment Officer (CDO).
We aren't sure what to make of the ELCA's job posting for the position Executive for Discernment of Contextual and Theological Issues:
The incumbent in this position will exercise considerable discretion and judgment in serving as executive assistant to the presiding bishop; assisting him/her in both taking the initiative on and responding to current theological, ecumenical, and social/cultural issues and trends. This position also serves as a theological resource to the officers of this church and is responsible for developing theological and academic correspondence and overseeing the response to correspondence of the presiding bishop.
There's no deadline in the job posting, so maybe applications will still be accepted. But we note that this posting is not listed with the rest of the ELCA's career opportunities. Perhaps it's a test of potential applicants' discernment capabilities.
