Famous February Defrockings
Abstract: February defrockings are not so unusual in the ELCA, and defrocking is not necessarily the end of a career in ministry.
February seems to be a good month to be defrocked:
Feb. 3, 1998: Pr. Steve Sabin was expelled from the ELCA roster.
Feb. 22, 1994: Pr. Ross Merkel was defrocked.
In spite of being excluded from the roster of "this church", both of these pastors are currently serving ELCA congregations.
