Scurrilous Rumors
Abstract: Rumors fly in advance of ordination. Pay no heed.
We hope you saw the article about Jen Rude's upcoming ordination ("Gay Pastor Tests Celibacy Rule") by Susan Hogan/Albach in the Chicago Sun-Times. Retired Metro Chicago Synod Bishop Rev. Paul Landahl was quoted:
"Jen is a wonderful candidate for ministry."
Jen's ordination extra ordinem will take place November 17 at Resurrection Lutheran and everyone we speak with is very excited.
Of course, because we're Lutherans, there are also rumors: "This person or that person might take their membership elsewhere."
We're plugging our ears. Don't ask us if the rumors are true. We are not qualified to comment, and we encourage you to put the best construction on everything.
However, we can say with complete confidence that there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will transfer her church membership to Resurrection. Sen. Barack Obama's campaign could not be reached for comment.
If that Clinton rumor were true, we wonder, who would stay and who would leave?
